My name is Gorgeanne Ross and in September of 2000, I founded a small business known as Delta Grind, now DBA The Original Grit Girl. I am self-taught for the most part, but I've had lots of help along the way in becoming a master grinder.
My business started as a hobby when my husband, Freddie Ross, restored a 1912 Fairbanks Morse Flywheel Engine and a 1910 Meadows Stone Grist Mill. He connected the grist mill with the fly wheel engine and “voila”, starting churning out stone ground products. With a little fine tuning, the antique equipment hummed beautifully and could be adjusted to produce grits, cornmeal, masa, and polenta.
